    Let's start-up a CUK recruitment agency

    Hi all,

Long-time lurker here; just started posting.

Apologies if this has been suggested before, but why not start our own Recruitment Agency? We all acknowledge that:
    • client companies like to deal with agencies rather than direct, mainly for legislative reasons.
    • pimps are (contractually) on the side of the client company, not the contractor
    • pimps make more margin than they should much of the time

If a group of us owned a recruitment agency, operating in the same way as any other agency to make a profit, we would get some of that margin back as dividends.

The agency would have the added benefit / marketing angle that the people it places are high-quality and even-more highly motivated than usual not to p!ss around as they co-own the agency.

It could even turn out to be a good (and tax-efficient) investment, as we could obviously invest capital in the agency with gross (pre-tax) cash.

    Any constructive thoughts welcomed....

I'm convinced something like this could work though I have no idea how pimps get their foot in the door to become 'preferred' (phone number client has on a post it I imagine) other than hammering references from unsuspecting contractors until something sticks.

Awaits clever people to write cleverer things...
    Permietractor (probably)

More likely the agency directors chuck a backhander to someone at the client to get on the PSL.

You mean a Co-Op Recruitment Agency, don't you?

You need someone with a relentless desire to network and sell and these people are like rocking horse sh"t. Some of the wealthiest agents are themselves ex contractors so it has been done before. But unless you are going to get on the phone and hustle you will go nowhere.

I have tried getting a few people together before. I came to the conclusion that very few contractors have any business acumen and the majority are bone idle.
Lawyers and accountants do this time and again and they sell their practices for vast amounts of money.

I was in marketing and sales for 10 years before this game and I know that these people can be bought. They love hustling ad just want a salary to pay their bills with and a piece of the action. What would thta cost between a dozen intelligent contractors turning over a million a year between them.
In fact if you take low multiples of income say 8 * earnings and declare only 30k profit each, thats 360k income for a dozen times 8 and you have afirm worth 2.5 million or therabouts. not to mention the 1200 a day you are no longer giving to the pimps. If that were in aproperly managed pension fund, it would deliver something useful.

If anyone wants some help and they can convince me they have as much energy as greed, I'll help, but I'll take some convincing.
