I insist on being paid in cash each month and the agent must deliver it to my desk in a wheelbarrow. I don't know why they all hate me.Originally posted by bobspud View PostIt really depends on what you do for a living.
I tend to do a few things while at a place I like.
First one is buy beer and regularly as NAT has already pointed out.
Second I try and help the main haters out in their own careers. Keep this on the QT give them some insight on stuff they clearly don't get, and let them look good in meetings. But keep that feed coming and always hold the next great idea just out of their reach. This prevents them from running to Boss and shouting I'm so good now why do you need him/her...
Mostly try not to be so bloody obvious about your wealth differences...Blood in your pooComment

Absolutely the number one reason contractors are disliked.

Don't talk about being a business person and do not moan about tax, NI etc!
Smile, get on with it, be helpful and forget about your search for love at work. New permies also have to earn acceptance but generally they are regarded as being of the same tribe as the current permies.
Sites that see few contractors are particularly sensitive to issues of flashness.Last edited by Taita; 27 August 2013, 16:41.Comment

The 911 conundrum is hard. On one hand you should be at least trying to fit in, if only to spare your client a stream of sniveling permies whining about wanting more cash without delivering more value. On the other if you have been at the game as long as many of us have why would a client expect you to be driving anything less. That said if you are bringing a supercar to site, for crying out loud park it at the company next door and walk to site.Originally posted by Taita View PostDon't park the 911 on site!

Easily solved by taking the banger to the office and using the 911 at other times.Originally posted by bobspud View PostThe 911 conundrum is hard. May as well not own it if all it's going to do is crash in value while you are miserable in some snotter of a second hand wreck. I have never understood people that do this.Originally posted by SueEllen View PostEasily solved by taking the banger to the office and using the 911 at other times.Comment
