Really? When I was looking a few weeks ago the rates were much higher, and there were also a number of dev roles about. I found my next contract in under two weeks, and given I've only been doing contracting for one year, the market can't be that bad...

The spam-mails are usually at tulip rates. We were recruiting at average rates..not great but not tulip either. Even so, we had a load of semi-literate applicants and people staring at their feet when talking. Plus someone who couldn't answer even basic questions about their previous role.

I have been contacted about roles which were 550 and 600 a day. I did not go for them as I still have a month and a bit on this contract but I have the job specs etc so they look genuine.

This suggests the market is decent:

IT contractor demand climbs to 25-month high :: Contractor UK

IME it continues to be fair but not great.

Thing is we can't just talk about the contracting market and hope to make any sense of it. Our market covers first line support right up to director level posts in a mix of hardware, software, BI, business and service management. I can't even define the scope it is so wide. So to say 'How is the contract market' is just meaningless. The fact we are all specialists doesn't help, we can't move in to areas that are buoyant either. If the 'market' is being propped up by dev that is no use to service guys etc so unless you say the dev market or PM market I can't see how we can quantify it.

I got scared before when someone was saying how poor the market was and they were on the bench for the first time etc. Then later they mentioned that they lived in Scotland, refused to work away from home and refused to work in a bank - hence there were several potential roles but they did not meet the very strict screening criteria.

                Web PM

There appear to be plenty of Web/Digital PM and BA roles. Not sure if that helps many/any of you, but there you go.

So, both interviews scheduled for this week, cancelled.

                  That'll learn me!

You really do need to look at your interview technique.

It´s moved from being totally awful in April to generally crap, i.e. how it was at the end of last year.
