Are most SC contracts outside London for military end-clients?

Just asking as in the last month I had two approaches for SC-cleared work (SQL DBA), both for military end clients. Checked out Jobswerve thinking it was just a fluke, THEN found it was likewise on there too!

Non-db work doesn't always lead to obviously military orgs, however tends to be based in far-flung areas near the coast (possibly near navy bases) but would I be right to think that anyone big enough to need industrial-strength databasing AND SC is going to be military?

I generally prefer to work in London or nearby...

Couldn't be more wrong. Nuclear facilities, FCO/Gov operations, large defence companies all outside London taking SC people on. Outsourcing companies that supply services to military and the others I have mentioned already require SC as well. Then there is the police and other government stuff.

Have a look at securtyclearedjobs site to see the type of clients and locations they have.

Plus almost any Government Department including Regioanl and Local Government, plus oddities like the Met Office, DVLC and the Hydrographic weirdes in Taunton...

About 40% of roles need clearance at some level these days: it's why I keep banging on about the pre-clearance Catch-22...
      Blog? What blog...?

Probably, but if we're talking percentages, I would also say that in MY game, it seems that 100% of the SC contracts are with military OR their civvy-street suppliers.

I can't believe that is true but seems you are talking about your game of which we have little knowledge we cannot help you.

Not knowing what your game is, apart from being a permie wanting to move into the same role as a contractor with the same employer, it's impossible to comment.

In MY game, it's absolutely not the case.

Not looking for help, I'm just making a point. And I'm a SQL DBA (and I'd be even more surprised if you were too, law of probabilities and all....)

Hmmm. Well there's eight of those near enough to my desk to talk to, all SC cleared, none working on military projects and all in a small town in Wiltshire... There are a few more downstairs as well.

LOL.. found this while having a play on google...

                    SQL Server DBA

                    Location: Sheffield
                    Duration: 6 Months
                    Role: SQL Server DBA
Rate: £190 SC CLEARED / £175 NON SC CLEARED
My client urgently requires an experienced SQL Server DBA to join their Sheffield team.

ONLY CANDIDTES WHO ARE ELIGIBLE FOR SC CLEARANCE CAN BE CONSIDERED FOR THE SQL SERVER DBA POSITION.
What is the point of a non SC cleared rate when they need SC clearance.. Ridiculous
