IME, a 'good business relationship' with 95% of agents only last from the time they submit you for a role to you finishing at the client.
I was at one client for nearly 3.5 years through Parity. They got 3.5 years commission from that. Once the client's work dried up, I had no more contact with Parity. They couldnt be arsed trying to find me a role. To them, you just become another out of work contractor.
This. It's all matey matey when your helping them earn the $£$£$£$ but if not then I can't be bothered.
I'm sure you've all had it. Agent is keen as mustard when they can sniff a result but as soon as its a no-go they can't even be arsed to take 10 secs to reply to an email.
Do you reply to all emails from agents asking of you're interested in a role?
OK. So agent contacts me, tells me about a contract and asks for my CV and promises to send me a job spec. Then contacts me again to ask a few questions. Then I ask where job spec is, agent ignores me. Then I ask if this is still a goer and whether I'm going to be put forward, agent ignores me.
Anything wrong with my behaviour so far NLUK?
Nope, just the point you start moaning about it rather than just moving on. Shelve that option and continue chasing others. If the agent wants me he will contact me. 10 seconds after putting the phone down I have forgotten about it. Like water off a ducks back. Neeeeeext....
You have considered he might just be fishing and there is a likelyhood there is nothing there?
'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!
I use to get calls/emails about electrical engineering and CAD work just because I have HNC in Electrical Electronic Engineering and stupidly left it on my CV. Not one mention of it again. If that is the effort they want to put in they don't deserve a reply IMO.

Ditto...sometimes they phone a week later and reference the previous conversion and I haven't a clue what they're on about.

Ah. That's slightly different. If its obvious that the agent has just bunged a million emails out by just searching a DB for keywords then I don't bother. But otherwise I will reply, even if they've got skills wrong. I even reply to ones who contact me about permie jobs just to tell them no thanks.
BTW - Do you think your cut out for contracting with the wrong qualification? :-)

You wouldn't get a job in EE with just a HNC (its electronics not electrics for a start.)- that is an agent totally failing.
I sometimes get a e-mail from lazy recruiters who bombard what must be the whole of the UK with jobs that are not even suited to me , but the e-mail is addressed to me.
Wouldn't take a job with them even if it looked ok because of that standard of recruiting.
Really gets my goat. I understand that its a money driven business and if you ain't in the frame for a contract then they aint gonna waste time with you but, come on, some politeness wouldn't go amiss.

Hardly building a good business relationship, is it? Lets just say, next time, if I ever see a contract advertised by two agencies and this is one of them, then they won't be the one I speak to first.
And I'm sure they'll cry themselves to sleep at night knowing this... </sarcasm>
