New (ish) contractor, any advice on the search / or leads

    Hi,

I just finished an initial 3 month contract that I found through former colleagues. Now I'm searching the market for something new.

I'm looking for recommendations on job boards / good agents and / or any leads anyone may have.

I've been working on global change programs for over 13 years (analyst / consultant / project manager). Areas such as shared services, SAP, corporate restructuring, acquisition integration, finance process improvement, application architecture). I've worked for Procter & Gamble, Accenture & PricewaterhouseCoopers in the past.

I'm looking for London based. I'm very flexible in the role. So far I've only really been looking at cwjobs.

Thanks for looking at my post.

There are no real secrets as such - just be persistent and patient.

Presumably you have saving ready for this as your previous research would have informed you that the contract market is quite poor at the moment (whereas I have been contacted about 3 separate perm jobs within the last week or so)?

Make sure your cv is searchable particularly on jobsite.

Dont price yourself out of the market by asking for too high a rate.

Dont spread yourself too thin (in other words dont make yourself out to be a jack of all trades)

Be proactive (phone agent whenever you can 10 - 15 minutes after sending you app).

            Press F5 a lot!

+1 to this. But by the same token, don't sell yourself short and line the agents pocket with what could've/should've been yours. Know your market value.

Also make sure your gigs/work experience is viewable on your LI public profile. Or a brief history at the very least.

                Good luck, keep invoicing.

I look forward to your all knowing and likely sarcastic and unhelpful reply.

Use Jobserve, Monster and I was once contacted via linked in by an old Manager and offered a contract without the agency cut.
