    Dealing with arsey people!

One of the reasons I like contracting is because I don't want to get involved with all the usual permie tulipe. As such, I go to client and try and get on with everyone and act in a professional manner. If I get bad attitude I usually ignore it and let it slide for a bit....

One thing I can abide is rude people especially when you are trying to help them. No-one speaks to me like tulipe even if your the CEO of client.

Got a right one at current client (who is contractor as well!) who seems to have a stroppy answer for every email they send me....

Like I said, my approach is to ignore for a bit, but eventually report this focusing on the fact that being argumentative is affecting productivity. Well aware of the fact that the last thing clients wants is whingers...

Whats everyone elses approach? Apart from chinning other contractor....

I find you'd be better to actually do your job properly as opposed to doing it in a haphazard or lazy style thus pissing people off.

A good worker doesnt get complaints.

LOL. Implication seems to be that I'm doing my job in haphazard or lazy style.... Not true.

In a perfect world, you're right a good worker wouldn't get complaints. But we don't live in a perfect world do we? Lots of bellends with their own agenda.... And remember this is not the client moaning about the quality, this is a fellow contractor acting like an arse for some reason unknown.

But I have recently discovered a lot of people at client, who seem to be able to disguise their distinct lack of ability or knowledge, by going on the offensive in the first place.

You are gonna get this anywhere, not sure why you think going contracting is going to remove any need to communicate with the whole spectrum of people at client sites.

this is true, you still have to deal with them, but as a contractor you should be able to care less about the idiots, secure in the knowledge that you'll be off to pastures new soon enough.

With management types, if you were permie, you'd be worrying about long term office politics, who to brown nose for a promotion/bonus

But you could also argue as a contractor everyone on client site is your customer so may have to work harder at dealing with these people. Permies can hold grudges or even be open with their feelings towards other colleagues. As they are your customer you have to rise above it and not let it get in the way of your delivery so have to work harder at getting on with these people?

Why doesn't incompetence send ££££££ signs flashing? More work to do, make the problem your own, lead by example, offer to sort it out......SELL SELL SELL!

Not everyone. The OP stated that the issue is with another contractor not a company employee. This is a different situation as its between two suppliers (contractors) and it appears the OP is being challenged for one reason or another to be seen as the incumbent or favored supplier to the client.
