Time to find another contract I think? Possibly.
Not quite sure what the behaviour of another contractor has got to do with client signing timesheets mind?

They aren't the most organised client I've ever had admitedly. In fact, one of the worst when it comes to renewals. But, apart from this one contractor, the team I work with are a great bunch.....

And its close to home lol.

      ..
Neither do I, but people and things are sometimes closer connected to each other than you realise.

Be afraid. Be very afraid is my humble opinion.

Whats everyone elses approach? Apart from chinning other contractor....
I hired a contractor who was pretty argumentative, made for a horrible atmosphere within the team. He used to pick silly fights and text me at the weekend complaining about other perms/contractors.

I couldn’t get rid of him as we were desperate for the piece of work to be done.

I tried every approach I could think of, reasoning with him, being nice, being hard etc.

I did some research on the internet and there are just people out there who are argumentative for no good reason. It's not you, the rest of the team, it's just him. In the end he was made to work from home and when his contract was up and the work done he was shown the door.

Much as you want to don't lose your temper with him, I did with this geezer and threatened him - spoilt my weekend.

This particular contractor aint argumentative, they're just rude to everyone, not polite, and generally, very sly.

But like you said, no-one likes a contractor who whines about others eithers so I'm aware of this.

just give him a big hug and tell him its going to be ok. I bet that's all he needs and I'm sure he will thank you. Try it.

Alas a stroppy guy at ClientCo was the straw that finally made me reject an extension, even though I was told by several people they would look away while I hit them with a shovel if it meant I stay, long and short is I moved into contracting for the flexibility, I have made a lot of money being here for 11 months so I don't need to put up with arsey people if I don't want to, I will stay professional to the end but in the end I look after me and me alone.

Most people now days hide behind emails. They don't have the balls to get tulipty face to face. Next time you get an email, pick up the phone to him or even better go and see him to discuss his response. Most email shiftiness is weak people or mis interpreted

Absolutely agree, deffo try this before anything else. Before getting speculative about who you've upset, conspiracies to oust you, etc. the old fashioned telephone method works most of the time for me.
