You are quite possibly correct in the roles not existing. I just find it strange that any client would go out to market for a skill they lack, yet prefer someone who has the subject matter knowledge they already have in bundles. Yes, its nice to have, but surely the missing skill set comes first?
I agree. But consider this, say you were an SME with the knowledge and applied. The response you'd have got is 'the client is really looking for someone who has the skills where they have the gap'!

If the role doesnt exist, they'll use any excuse why you arent suitable. They (the agent) got your cv out of it too.

BTW, I've never seen so many permie jobs on jobswerve.

    Cynical? Me? Nah!

Now up against agents who clearly don't understand the spec they have been given. Think I hit 9 out of 10 criteria but got ditched on the one that was non-sensical! Still, at least he provided feedback.

Hahaha I find most specs are BS when you turn up at the interview they're generally keen to know how good you are at a handful of what was specified.

Yep. Even from the inside looking out, HR go and pile on 30 "essential skills" to go into the job ad. I think they are sometimes fishing to fill multiple positions with the one job ad but it causes confusion and pisses people off.

Question: Do I need good understanding of investment bank processes before I can model investment bank data?

ISEB is a joke amongst people I know. It is like a beginner's introductory course. Yet still I see ads stating its a 'must have'. All that says to me is that whoever has written the ad doesn't understand the subject matter.
