    Overtime rate, Nothing in contract

I have been asked to work overtime every day, however my contract has nothing about the rate I should charge. I am not keen on doing it for less than 1.5x normal rate. Any advice, should I ask agent? Or just decide what I want to charge.

Just decide what you think the client will be prepared to pay.

Which might be nothing but your next extention.

I had similiar issue few contracts back, I emailed agency and asked would they be paying double time or 1.5 time...

So they had option, ended up with 1.5 time, which was lovely...

Are you on a daily rate or hourly?

last time i worked weekends i agreed the amount with the client before,so there was no confusion over what they were going to get billed, i would have been happy to take the normal day rate just for the extra cash but started at double time which they laughed at and said they could only pay time and a half, sorted

does your contract specify 7 hours or "professional/business day"

Neither, but everyone (permie) here works 7 hours days.

Update: Other contractor says he is on 7.5 hours. Mine just says £XXX per day.

You could be on a hiding to nothing, if its working an extra hour or two on the end of the day I don't think there is any recourse for charging more, just looks more favourable when it comes to renewal. If they are wanting extra days from you, weekends etc you might have some scope for charging them more.

They have already said they will pay me, but nothing about rate. I don't really want to stay here after the contract ends in 5 weeks, long commute and crap work.

If they had ask me to work without pay, I would say no.
