Strange agent responses for SQL/BI roles

what kind of niche? it would need to be related to what I am already doing, I would have thought Business Intelligence is more niche than say general SQL development or app development....

+1. BI is only on site because people believe they need to see the people who create the reports. That is now disappearing offshore as Bob companies offer very cheap prices.

Personally I think that to stay contracting will require you to be offer something more. I'm gambling on a combination of Saas and expert interpretation of the data collected but I'm sure you'll think of something.

I'm not suggesting anything. I'm pointing out the direction I'm heading in but that is because:-

1) its the area I find most interesting
2) one which when talking to people they are interested in using.

And I had a large amount of code which could be re-purposed to provide a hosted software service from which we can build and tie in consultancy advice.

To be honest I'm trying to rapidly move away from being a contractor to becoming a fully fledged specialised consultancy.

That's the reporting aspect of it yes. Cubes and DW require a lot more on site work and direct interaction with data people I'd say.

BI BA/Technical Analyst/Modeller route is what I'd recommend.

BI is booming, but the technical skills are getting offshored. You still need some on site to gather the reqs and tell the Bobs what to do though.
