    What to do?

    Dear all,
I am in a tricky situation....I have an offer from a bank - background checks going on - likely to join next week or so..I didnt accept the contract yet......I got a call this morning from my previous client asking if I want to come back...

    Bank role:
    1. Project likely to run over 2yrs
    2. My last daily rate was £x, this one pays £x-25
    3. Abt 1hr commute from home

    Previous client:
    1. Insurance arm of a large tax payer bailed out bank - based in Scotland (you all know which one - dont you?)

    2. Daily rate likely to be £x-50 max
    3. Abt 15 min drive from home

My toddler son goes to a nursery close to home, so the 'previous client' thingy is good for me. But on the other hand, unsure if I should let a bank slip from my CV.

If I take up the bank role, I definitely will need to leave office at 430pm to get to the nursery on time. I usually start early and finish early. This was okay with my prev clients. Not sure how the bank will take it. Thats a major concern for me. I told the agent about this. He said sort it out with you manager when you join

What would you do if you were in my place? Pl share your thoughts..

Previous client is the way forward as the bank deal from my experience is not going to let u leave at 4:30 where as the previous client has, plus its closer to home.

    Just my opinion

If you have been watching the rate cut threads at the moment there is nothing clever about having a bank on your CV at the moment. Banking is not that hard to get in to. You have done it once, you will be able to do it again. It isn't a closed shop like IB is IMO.

Also in my experience an 'Only 1hr commute' will be anything from 45 mins to 2 hours + if you are doing major routes. The longer the commute the bigger the range so ifyou need to be home by set times for your children I would forget the 1hr. It's 1 hour to here round the Manchester motorway and a little backroads for me but one accident at rushhour can easily double that... and it does... regularly.

Go back to the your previous client IMO. No brainer for me.

Yep, since this is closer to home, I will not need to leave at 430.... its tempting in many ways

For £25 a day differential- or perhaps £20 a day in your pocket - why are you even asking?

              Go with the local one.

                Precisely the point

The alternative is to go chasing same tulip on a motorway day in, day out.

As stated by others, take the role at the previous client, the agent has no idea wheher you will be allowed to work on that basis or not and you wont get the actual answer until you start the role.

Dont trust the agent even if he says you can sort out hours when you get there. Basically, they dont care because you've signed up and if its hassle for you then they aint bothered.

Another way to think about it. £25 extra for 1.5 hours more driving a day. Plus however much in petrol. Dont leave much extra I reckon anyway. Probably about £1 an hour for the extra 1.5 a day out of your time !!!!
