I agree. If you live in the west country (ish) the DV gravy train is hard to beat - 10 years and counting - no time between contracts (touch wood).

One of the few parts of IT that is fairly bob resistant.

I'm in negs with a let's say 'large' organisation, wanting me to fill a role with a Gov agency. Rate is great, best over and 33% better than current (London role tho) - my current SC with be fine for the first six months but I will be needed after that deeper down the pile and will need to be DV'd, which they will do.

I think i had PV before for a Nuclear role I had, not sure I was ambivilous (spell?) to contracting then, just took each day as it came. Wish I could do that now! Anyway, I've never had any crime stuff, never done any drugs, apart from beer, had a few debt probe in the past but nothing current apart from a credit card bill which I chose not tho pay off for now for various reasons (but could by the DV time) and a tax bill due to me going LLP and getting shafted a bit (my own fault - it's in the search here), made arrangement with HRMC and that will be paid off very soon, if not now, must check....

My biggest worry is I suffered 2001-2002 with quite bad depression and whilst I wasn't suicidal or anything, I just didn't care much what happened to me - I'm just a bit worried some record may exist - I certainly remember the Sheriffs coming round (this was Scotland - read bailiffs) and distressing everything. Never came of it, sorted out the distress and nothing legal happened but the point is at the time I didn't really care so something might be there. I'll tell all anyway.

Well, worth a punt? DV might see me set for a while, but I'm a bit worried going out on a limb and not getting the DV. In a any case six months on SC is quite lucrative...

And is DV subject to the same time-expire rules as SC?

          stek bares his soul!

Generally DV expires as soon as you leave the role.

Don't know about the depression issues but I do know that for DV they can be *very* touchy about large debts and/or financial issues.

As for your how any of that would affect any application you make, who knows? There is only one way to find out for sure

cheers but re: debt I can pay all off now if I wanted by DV time, just choose not to ATM for cash-flow reasons!

I'm talking 10k total, for me it's sounds a lot in my 80's mind but maybe now it's not?...

              Thanks!

It's supposed to expire when you leave but in reality it can be resurrected if its within 6 months.

Having it in the past doesn't seem to be doing me any favours when applying for current roles despite being no risk, just goes to show the rules about insisting on current clearance are still being ignored.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

I expect the troubles that the new Cerberus system is having is making the problem worse... people are even less willing than they used to be to accept non-cleared people now because it's take 6+ months for SC for some people

Is it a lot? If it was 10k on a new conservatory, no. If it was 10k on lapdancers and Jaegerbomb's, then probably

Seriously, doesnt sound like it'd be an issue if you got the money to pay it off.
