anyone made a massive mistake on a contract?

I just nearly had a heart attack, thought I had nearly lost someones data, all of it but thank god managed to get on the get it all back, I had no idea what I was going to say!

It made me think has anyone out there been on a contract and really bodged up on something which you could not get out of? What happened?

Make sure you have all kind of insurance available in market.

I don't know what you do, but shouldn't the client co have procedures in place that simply stopp that happening? If they don't, surely they should? In the client co's that I work in this would be reported as a "near miss" and you could (rightly IMO) expect to be thanked for alerting the client to this risk for their business.

This should all be backed up on a daily basis. It shouldn't be possible to do something like that.

I'd get out of there, because it's an accident waiting to happen.

If it does happen you're deep in the poo.
        I'm alright Jack

Yes but data restore here is a real headache and it does not back up the 10 PST files he manually created and kept in a folder on his C drive but thats the not the question it was more on if anyone had made a mistake while on a contract that could not be rectified.

We had a data guy who dropped a load of data tables on the live server instead of the test one by mistake. Let him stay to fix it then walked him. A lot of very unhappy people right they up the chain but not a word about recovering any monies from him.

On the odd occasions where i have had to execute a query against a live database, I check and recheck the query and even test the query against a backup first before executing it. You just cannot be too sure these days.

No, I haven't. I'm always super-paranoid before I do something risky (but that doesn't go down well either)
