How far do you/ would you travel for a contract?

Obviously, rate and cost would be an issue but how far (and how long) would you travel for a contract?

    Or would you stay over?

Personally, I hate the the mon-fri hotel thing...

Firstly, use Spareroom to find a room rather than a hotel as that will give you someone to talk to and a kitchen to use.

As for the question I find anything up to 80 minutes I'll commute daily,
between 80 minutes to 2 hours I'll return home once during the week (wednesday night say),
    above that I'll stay over.

Distance wise I'll take the cash and worry about logistics later unless it really looks impossible.

I'm in a similar boat at the moment, about 90 mins away, stay over in a B&B two nights a week (Monday and Thursday nights) do the drive the rest, but I am looking at getting a Mon-Thurs place local to save money as about to go from 45p to 25p a mile

I am currently on a contract with a client in Aberdeen. I live down South so have to stay away. I fly up early Monday and come home Thursday night and work Friday at home so it is not too much of a pain. The worst part of it is trying to keep the cost down, Aberdeen is bloddy expensive

I have found a reasonable B&B for the 3 nights a week as the contract could end at any time.

          1. London is Banned
          2. No gig if the journey is greater than 3.5 hours
          3. Will stay in B&B if journey is between 1.5 and 3.5 hours
          4. Will travel from home if journey is up to 1.5 hours

Hotels suit some folk, but I prefer B&B. I have always managed to find a cheap house to rent on a daily basis (but I have been very lucky!) So I start new gigs in a B&B and move into own digs normally within a week or two.

Why number 2? is it so you can get home quick in emergencies?

Ad. 1. I can sometimes manage to get to Gatwick and out of the country in 3.5 hours, so why not if the rate is good???
Ad. 2. Again, why such an arbitrary limit? Arguably if it's further you're probably better off with flying/train than driving yourself, and definitely not everyday, but still doable, why not...

My commute is doable in 3.5 on a Sunday night, but normally takes between 4 and 4.5 hours. I don't have a great sense of relief if I manage it in 3.5 hours. I certainly wouldn't jack it in if I could get half-an-hour or an hour less, in the end it's a "several hour" drive.
                I'm alright Jack

Depending where you live you can get out to somewhere in Europe in that time without being knackered from all the travelling.

Pretty much what he said, but I draw the line at about an hour then I look for accommodation. I prefer house shares to hotels or B&B's although I will use them if it's only a few days every couple of weeks.
When working on the Hampshire coast I went home every 2 weeks because the 560 mile round trip was just too irritating to do every week.
