I totally agree with that! They were the only budget ones I could think of. If you book early enough or pay them enough up front I believe it is possible to get some of them down to £29 a night or whatever the lowest offers some of them do. Doesn't seem to bad at that rate.... but as you say, you don't get much for your dollar.'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!

There is nowt wrong with Darlo (provided you actually live there and don't need to either eat out every night or use a hotel). Mind you a can think of a few places that make Darlo look like heaven on earth.Originally posted by ChrisPackit View PostI've only had to work away once (and what a tulip hole Darlington is!!) but if I had to do it again, top of my list would be Newcastle.

Thought I might be putting the cat amongst the pigeons with that statement !!
It was just so grim staying up there for me, as I stayed above a pub that all the local in-bred’s drunk in, because the beer was 10 pence a pint, and they’d never heard of closing time.Comment

To be honest if I was there as a Monday to Friday contractor I would hate the place.Originally posted by ChrisPackit View PostThought I might be putting the cat amongst the pigeons with that statement !!

I think it all boils down to finding decent accommodation and I seem to always end up staying on farms simply to avoid scenario's like the one above.merely at clientco for the entertainmentComment

If you're working north of the tyne do not get accommodation on the south side because it's murder getting over that bridge on a morning (unless you use the metro with the normal people
)

try googling farmstay, it's out of the city but I quite like it.....also can negotiate with the owners if you stay long term.....
I need peace and quiet when I sleep...so out in the sticks for me as opposed to staying in the centre and going clubbing etc....I'll get me slippers...

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've negotiated a slightly improved rate with the Jurys Inn for next week, I'll probably be able to find something cheaper for the week after.
