DV Clearance and poor credit score

    Hi All

I have been offered a full time job 'subject to DV clearance'.

Problem is I have a VERY poor credit score

I have checked on Experien and thats what they have graded me 'Very Poor'!

Does this mean I am likely not to be granted DV clearance?

I have no CCJ's, mortgage arrears or anything that serious. I have defaulted on a credit card (which is now being paid back on a monthly agreement) and missed a couple of payments occasionally. I also had some payday loans some months ago (yes I know stupid) but these are paid back.

    Thoughts?!

    Cheers

Do search here on 'security clearance'. There was a recent thread that should give you a few suitable answers.

I was DV'd in 1996 and they checked EVERYTHING....

Like bank accounts without asking and talking to my mates asking if I drank a lot, had extra marital relationships etc...

So yeah, debt means liable to give up secrets for cash I'm afraid...

Even back then the powers that be said DV cost about 6k....

For DV u must be working on total Top Secret stuff, one of my colleagues got her DV but they knew she attended in CND march in 1976 or something, these guys are good I have to say!

One of the questions is "when was the last time you went overdrawn?" and you will be asked, in detail, about what happened and why.

See how you go - that's the best that you can do.

I think you'll probably be alright. You may be of higher risk, but as long as the other background checks come out hunkey dorey I think you might be fine.

I don;t know for sure and have never gone through the procedure but a little common sense says you'll be fine - would be a little surprised if not. Depends on the values involved I suppose. Just be honest about everything.

            True.

I also found I was asked when the last time I went to William Hill and Corals. I told them the date and I lost £50. They came back and told me it was £60. Unreal!

You havn't given us a clue as to why you have officially gained a very poor credit rating but I would suspect it isn't for the odd late payment of your current account. If people lending you money see it fit to rate you as very poor I wouldn't hold too much hope out about people trusting you with national secrets and highly sensitive data I am afraid.

Again it really depends on the type of debt but you have failed to earn the trust of the credit people so that might be all they need to know. Sorry

It's going to take 6 months plus to get DV anyway - so get the gig, fill your boots and worry about getting marched off-site when it actually happens.

That's bulltulip, i got SC with a large amount of bad debt - declared it and showed that i was able to pay it back. They are concerned that you might be susceptible to bribes due to being desperate, or blackmail. They don't make moral judgements based apon financial history, just because you have a bad credit rating doesn't make you a bad person.

well done on ur SC. now when you have actually got any experience in the clearance the op is actually talking about then you may come and call my opinion bulltulip. such comments when really your comparing apples and pears are a little thin.

i am as always ready to be proven wrong by someone actually in the know
