I refer you back to my post - contact your case officer, who should have contacted you by now...

Thanks all
Hi All
Thanks for all the feedback/advice. I hadn't intended it to start a battle though!!
It would seem that different people have different experiences which would maybe match the 'case by case' approach.
Thanks again

I do apologise. I quoted the wrong post.Originally posted by Mr.Whippy View PostThe "myth" being?...... that you will get overlooked for a cleared role if you don't have clearance? That's not a myth in my experience.
Or are you referring to the myth of not being allowed to tell anyone you're cleared?
To be clear - the latter...

Generally I would agree with what people say about telling people you have it is grounds for losing it and we assume telling the odd person, wearing you badge around colleagues... Small potatoes.Originally posted by Sockpuppet View PostTechnically by mentioning your going for DV clearance you've just automatically failed the clearance process
Certainly telling people you have DV clearance is grounds for losing it!
I would hazard a guess that posting this information on an open web forum certainly would be frowned upon though.

Bollox - the last SC role I did, everyone had different badges based on their level of security clearance, so you knew who should be in different parts of the building and who shouldn't be there.Originally posted by Sockpuppet View PostCertainly telling people you have DV clearance is grounds for losing it!

Another classic urban myth...Originally posted by Mr.Whippy View PostSo, if you are DV cleared and an agent calls you up and says "I've got a great gig...are you currently DV cleared?" what are you supposed to do? say no and stand no chance of getting put forward for it?

Yeah, I think it is. It seems all the advice he offers is "you're ****ed/stupid" or "use a search engine", which begs the question why bother?Originally posted by lje View PostIs that really necessary? NorthernLadUK might be quite forthright with his opinions but he offers a lot of advice on this forum and helps a lot of people - which I haven't seen much of from you. Just because you're conversing on the internet doesn't make it acceptable to be a complete pot noodle.
Oh I know wait I know why, he can be a big man on the internets. Well done, no really, congrats. If you're happy to listen to his drivel carry on.

To the OP; don't bother asking serious clearance related questions here. Go directly to your case officer who is managing your clearance at whichever agency is clearing you and ask them.
Job jobbed!!!

No, it isn't. Have a look at the DV form, then have a look at the SC form. They ask completely different questions. SC doesn't ask about your partner's financial circumstances, for a start. SC doesn't ask where you bank. SC doesn't ask when you were last overdrawn. SC doesn't ask why you went overdrawn. SC doesn't ask the last time you went to a bookmakers.Originally posted by the_duderama View PostIt's the same information they ask for on the SC.
Without knowing what the OP did, why they did it, and what they would do in the same situation, no-one here is going to be able to say whether they would or would not get DV clearance. In fact, even knowing all that, no-one here is going to be able to say for certain whether they would get the clearance or not.
To the OP - if you are going to go for it, then you will be expected to know when you defaulted and why for each occasion. DVA already know that you did it, they just need the bigger picture before they can make an assessment.

You didn't fall for their cunning trap and respond "sell state secrets to the Chinese for a cool £100k" then?Originally posted by Netraider View PostI gained DV clearance despite having a CCJ registered. My vetting officer was interested in how I got into debt and what I did to clear the debt and CCJ. I was then asked what I would do if the situation was to arise again, the expected answer being "I would report it to my securiy officer\vetting officer". As it was explained to me - Being in debt is not a bar to DV clearance. It is how you handle the situation.
I hope this helps.
