yeah sure and if you want to set up a factory to hit european markets you go to the island in Europe , with all the added logistical costs that brings......
I think all that is really a nice bit of PR. They can hardly say, we've come here for cheaper labour and cheaper production costs for cars to maximise our revenue, otherwise we would have gone to Germany or any other full EU country.
Apart from the points raised previously, heres some additional (all not good) reasons why:
all from 1 quick source - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/1136312.stm
"a lack of regulation compared with Europe"
"Nissan's British management have had to promise to meet tough cost-cutting targets to land the deal"
"That £40m grant from the UK government would have helped" - we even gave them taxpayers money to come (going back to my view that GDP is all that matters e.g UK PLC)
"Nissan's Sunderland workforce have already agreed to go onto a new, more flexible shift system"
then further down - "They will need extra workers - about 500 of them - but most of the labour that is needed will come from making the shifts of the existing workforce more flexible"
AKA - NOT STANDARD UK FULL TIME EMPLOYMENT and the rights that come with it, but lots of part time disposable and exploitable (in terms of pensions, benefits etc) staff. this is what Japan will NOT tolerate, as companies are expected to show much much more responisbility to staff (a lot of japanese corporations provide housing for example). Most of the nissan skylines, I know for a fact, went on ships from Shields to JAPAN , thats the market.
But honest, Im leaving now
I've been trolled from the original pick on the political views, I dont like being labelled as a lefty just because I cant understand the whines about how unfair the results of globalisation are, at the same time as reaping all the benefits.
