Agents trying to get onto your linked in network

I have just got this up and running in the last 2 weeks.

Few agents now have asked to get into my network, I have just ignored the requests so far.

What does the group think about letting agents onto ther network? Are they just wanting to see other names connected with me? Work out who are the managers at previous gigs etc? Is this common thing?

Yes. But then I have had the odd offer through linked in, so you decide if it's worth it.

Allow decent agents (oxymoron I know) in block the rest.

It's not your facebook/myspace after all, whole purpose is to find old/new contacts and keep up with on old ones and what agents are doing works in reverse as well (found a few weeks old line manager by linking to current agent)

Managers really are getting younger these days

Wouldn't do it if I were you. Your contacts won't like it especially the more senior ones who have hiring responsibilities... Also how does it in any way help you, in fact you are probably just creating potential competition for yourself as he trawls though all your contacts with similar skills to you to find other candidates for the roles.

I always refuse link requests from pimps but you can hide your other links from those linked to you anyway if you wish.

LinkedIn is a networking tool for professionals. Anyone you would consider part of your professional network is worth adding - but obviously only the ones you would want to work with again. Adding agents who are strangers seems against the point, but if you have a decent relationship with someone who got you work before, why not? In fact, even consider inviting them to join you.

Yes, well said, I find it a bit sad though that agencies have got so heavily involved in LinkedIn, it would be a great direct B2B tool if it was used solely that way. I believe pimps use it mainly for harvesting warm leads.

I accept from the ones that I know, like and have found me work. The rest, I say "I don't know xyz" - which then stops them just being able to spam connections, as you need an email address if you get knocked back too often

I just block my contacts so no-one can see them.
