Im really suspicious regarding this story about Hays and am certain not all of the facts are known.

Anyway, to use a football analogy describe what I see as the situation:- If Ronaldo didn't keep kicking the ball at the net he wouldn't score many goals and would not be a top footballer.
Similarly, if agents did not punt for every opportunity that came their way, how many more contractors would be on the bench & how many agents out on the street??

Also consider this:- When an agent calls a client after getting wind of a deal, he has a 2:1 chance of getting a look in: the client either sais 'yes' or 'no'.
When a contractor sends in their CV in response to a Jobswerve add along with all the others, he is looking at at odds of at least 1000:1 of securing a contract.

Whos the mug the agent or the contractor??

Finally how would this guy feel if Hays had got him the role using these tactics (as agents have for a large proportion of contractors working at the moment), would he still be slagging them off?? I think not.

Had the "Hays email" yesterday. I added the following to my reply which had the CV he requested:

        CV as requested.

Please note: no references, prior contacts, prior managers, etc. details given out BEFORE a signed contract is in place. Too many wasted agency fishing calls at the moment; I'm sure you understand.

As you can imagine, I've heard nothing in return since.

You need to work with these people - how else are the majority of you going to get contracts without agents?? Off your own backs??

Phone them up, communicate, make sure they call you first when they do have a suitable contract...now you know the drill.

And then the majority of sensible post holders got absorbed with whether or not the Hays consultant was actually from Hays...

Could we assume for a moment that the Hays Consultant (cos thats where he/she/it came from) had an "in" with the hiring manager? He submitted said Contractor UK person CV to the hiring manager. Hiring manager really keen but then told that if he uses anyone outside the PSL then he will have his legs cut off, as will he's wife's and possibly their children's legs as well. Hiring manager weighs up potentiality for not being able to walk again and so decides not to hire through non PSL agent. Contractor UK person not happy and decides to deride on here. End of story.

Its business, the day you decide personally that it is more involved/complex than that is the day it becomes too much...

Im surprised that Hays dont ask both the client and the contractor for money considering that their guy is now doing the role.

Hope the guy that went direct checked out end clients payment record before he took a leap of faith....
