    Have seen this on one or two job specs lately.

    Since when has that affected my ability to do the job? I'd only be commuting Sunday/Monday and late Friday and living there during the week

    I'd apply the same rule if I was a permie manager. You are knackered and late in on Mondays and fed up and looking to escape early on Fridays. I think this goes on unofficially with a lot of roles.

      Reading between the lines I suspect the role will involve a fair amount of weekend work and "overtime". Hence wanting someone who isnt going to feck off to the other end of the country every Friday.

        Agent I spoke with a few weeks ago told me "the client want someone local and NOT from London, they've had their fingers burnt in the past because they know as soon as another gig comes up closer to home they'll p*ss off".

          I guess different clients look at it differently. Some places with a contractor workforce will actually look at it as an advantage if you're staying in a hotel during the week and will be happy to work late during the main workdays to make up your hours. Let's face it, plenty of permies nip off on Friday. It's not called POETS day for nothing.

          Other places hate the scenario you mentioned. Tired contractor on a Monday (sometimes completely exhausted if they've driven one end of the country to the other overnight, as one guy I knew used to do) and shooting off at lunchtime on a Friday.

                  I've just had an agent refuse to put me forward because I'm overqualified - even though I was ok with the lower rate and the long commute and it was only a short contract.
                  Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

                  I preferred version 1!

                    I think they are just different polite(ish) rejection methods used by the agent or client. In the good times you fire off a CV and forget about it unless the agent comes back to you. At the moment the agents are getting loads of CVs and then loads of people following up the application. The reason given is probably just a random one plucked from the agents head. Don't try and analyse it too much !
