Peter, you were kinda told that the agent was a shiester. You should not have fallen for it. Hopefully you will not be bitten like this again. Are you going to write that letter...

If you're going to write a complaint letter, may I also suggest you copy it to the REC - This is the governing body that all agencies worth thier salt are a part of - you may also want to copy in the Professional contractors Guild."Being a permy is like being married, when there's no more sex on the cards....and she's got fat."

why would you think that's fishing?? We don't want the roles you want - if you've heard of them elsewhere, they're fair game, but I personally rely in some ways on my contractors telling me what else they're being spoken to about if it's not of interest.
If I was fishing I would ask for the details of interviews attended but without feedback as yet...that's altogether different, and in my view, unprofessional.
Give the agents that prove their worth a break - give the ones who try and stiff you hell - we're not ALL out to get you - some of us want to work with you, but need a two way flow of information (info which is of no use to you) in order to make it work.
Ask yourself this: How many of the gigs that you've had through agencies do you think came from completely cold calls, and how many from the contractors who feed info to professional consultants?? What goes around comes around. We're under no illusions though - As a contractor, you should have a superb network after 10 years or so, therefore you wouldn't be using an agency anyway........"Being a permy is like being married, when there's no more sex on the cards....and she's got fat."

To be fair, in my experience it can come down to the individual.
The point of this forum is to debate, not sell, so I will not be publishing the name of the organisation I work for, but needless to say we are not quite in the same league as some of the shiesters who taint our name - and the market is finally starting to see the value in the way we do things - honesty and openess, not something you'd normally associate with a rec agency - but it works, and the business is one of the fastest growing in the UK as a result."Being a permy is like being married, when there's no more sex on the cards....and she's got fat."

Don't put yourself forward twice. If you're not sure it isn't a problem for agent no 2 to check. I have never experienced an agent not putting me forward, and I did let one or two agents double check mainly because I wasn't sure if it was a different project in the same group.I'm alright JackComment

The only reason an agent will not put anyone forward is they proberly think the contractor would not be a good fit for the job.And sometimes as the contractor most of the time tells the agent "I can do that" the crap agents don't have the bottle to say sorry mate/love you are not the level the client are expecting .Comment
