we've got a bitch of a client who doesnt understand the difference between Contracting and Perm. I've started refusing attending meetings etc, and I point out I'm not a perm and I'm not here to look at corporate strategy etc.

This upsets some people! They just dont get it.
I didn't say it was your ******* fault, I said I was blaming you!

Like I care that they've got a new Head of HR. ( Well, I do, cos that means a reorg, which means changes to the systems, which means moolah for me. )

It's full of 'em here. I've only been on the job a short while but others have been years. Some have ducked in and out of the job as work peaked and troughed and at the moment I'd like to be onme of those too. It's long term project and it's a very harsh world out there right now. Anyone wanting to be a brickie building houses right now on £150 a day? Thought not.

well, it irritates the crap out of me but The Poll Has Spoken. so: do all you LtdCo folks who voted to MYOB just comply and go along to those big all-staff meetings, fill in "leave requests", and go on training courses while billing?

Nope, but I leave those who do to get on with it - leaves me in peace to post on here

and how would you deal with another contractor who is labouring under the misapprehension that they're your boss?

A quiet word with Mr Fisty behind the bike sheds.

Hmm good question, depends on what they were expecting to be honest. I don't think it's unreasonable to 'request' holiday, I expect my teams to check their dates with me irrespective of whether they're contract or perm, and I in turn do the same with the clientco. To my mind that's courtesy and good business rather than D&C.

What other sort of things are they expecting of you, and what is your role in relation to theirs? Are they even connected?

Doesn't apply to me as I'm rubbish at my job and rarely last longer than a month

                    Cheers
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

                    I preferred version 1!

well apart from the aforementioned little annoyances, trying to negotiate contract terms with the rest of us at renewal time despite having the same pimp as us and being privy to all our rates and agency margins (can you say "conflict of interest"?)
