Not really. I had already decided after many years reading this fourm to 'come out' and start posting. I joined up and started posting in December, fairly sure that was before this thread was bumped.Originally posted by fraymond View PostReally. I wonder if the thread title was starting to come up in google searches...
PS I checked for you as well, it doesn't

I've been reading a lot about Parent-Child psychological (not literal) relationships, and the 'middle' state of 'Adult'. The agency-contractor relationship has the potential to become Parent-Child (in both directions) with both being rebellious, both being controlling etc....
Andy's responses so far seem to reflect the middle, balanced, 'adult' state which makes me pay attention and wiling to listen. Because in all relationships, if both parties can act like adults rather than parent-child, it would probably be healthier.
I think that we have to retain a healthy level of skepticism whilst also being fair and rational. Maybe easier said than done!Comment

Interesting you should point this out. I've been doing a Leadership programme at Henley Business School and this was one of the things that I was working with on with my personal coach.Originally posted by rob s View PostI've been reading a lot about Parent-Child psychological (not literal) relationships, and the 'middle' state of 'Adult'. Applying it to my working environment has had a positive effect for both my relationship with my direct reports but also how I work with my boss. The trick is to come down from 'parent' with people who work for you, and move up from 'child' to 'adult' with your boss.
Perhaps the most striking change for me though has been the change that this has made with my children. By being a bit less 'parent' to them they actually act less 'child'.
Probably one for another topic, but glad the course seems to be working!Last edited by Andy Hallett; 28 January 2013, 15:29.Comment

It's an interesting topic if you also consider parents having to enforce boundaries, and then how children react to these. The interaction (and how it is negotiated) has a big impact on whether trust is built or not in the child.Comment

Yup! Same thing as 'them' & 'us'. Part of the family or not part of the family.Originally posted by northernladuk View PostAnd you get all this from three words?
Isn't exactly the strongest evidence to start making assumptions about some ones attitude to work is it.Comment
