But you can charge the company for the use of your home phone/internet. I would have thought it doesn't smell right to have a company ADSL connection at home because it's very hard to convince anyone you aren't using it as your home internet as well.

It would depend on your work set up.

If you spend a signifcant time working at home then having a phone line and internet connection in the businesses name wouldn't be considered odd. However all the people I know who have taken this route actually have 2 phone lines - one business and one personal.

Of course I will be keeping my personal line.

Broadband isn't itemised like phone calls, so whether I use it for some personal usage is a moot point.

Even though, when in contract, I am unlikely to work from home, having an internet connection and a PC are pretty central to my business so i don't think I would have to justify it. At least my accountants are happy to let this through without question.

I have an additional physical line already installed by a previous employer. BT a re charging around £100 plus VAT to activate it and was wondering what other packages are popular out there I could look into.

Look into providers that supply telephone and broadband as a package, like Bulldog (not that I am recommending them).. They originally supplied me with a newly installed line for £1, and some of the others might waive the BT reconnection fee..
