Agents contacting you for a role that exists but they aren't on PSL

Following up received a call from the first agent that the client rejected me for being "too expensive" but I'm interviewing with the client on Thursday ROFL...

The second job was actually legit and I got interviews via the agent that I was a bit suspicious of so maybe I was being paranoid because of the first job.

So you've applied for the same gig via two agents? First said no thanks and second has put you in? Be very wary the first one might try and claim dibs. It sounds like they didn't put you forward so they have absolutely no right to but I wouldn't put it past them. Do you know if one is main PSL or are they both on? Makes me very uncomfortable situations like this. It sounds like some people have managed to negotiate it OK on this thread but I'm 0 for 2 (or is it 3? I forget). Maybe I was just unlucky.

I'm willing to take the risk as they didn't obviously submit. I tell agents nothing about where I'm applying for and don't update my Linked-In until after I've finished my contract and trying to find another.

If you've already applied through one agent and another phones you about the same role, then you tell the second one that you are already being represented. That saves you being shafted by both agents.
You don't tell the agents about where you are applying, you ask them who the client is. If they refuse to tell you, then you move on.

It helps if you have more than just a LinkedIn relationship with them, and are people that you have spoken/dealt with in the past.

That what I ido, I told the second agent from whom I got the interview that I was represented by the first agent by the role. She said a) they didn't submit and b) previously they submitted me for a role which didn't;t go live at the client 3 months earlier so they still have exclusivity.

I tel agents when I've been submitted for the same role but otherwise keep quiet. I do have relationships with agents but as I'm fairly specialised often the ones I prefer to work with don't have roles at the time.
