Hybrid working isn't new - I was doing it 15 years ago for a contract - but the widespread expectation of it has. We work in an industry where personal relationships benefit our business and it is difficult to cultivate them at the end of a camera. On the plus side I have been able to do contracts that I would have been geographically excluded from but that also means others - including offshore - can do the same.

These are interesting times that present opportunities as well as risks but I get the impression some people think they won't need to go to an office again.
Again, completely irrelevant to this thread.

The situation described by the OP is "a client advertise a role as fully remote but then at interview stage say they want everyone on-site".

So the discussion is about how to deal with a client changing an important parameter of a contract at interview stage.

We're not talking about remote VS hybrid, we're not talking about how contractors should be flexible. Wanna talk about these topics? Open another thread and stop polluting this one.

Bit harsh IMO. It's an interesting topic and where it might not technically be directly related to his question it is useful to help the OP (and others) understand the bigger picture so they will have a better understanding of any other situations they may bump in to and don't have to ask naïve questions at every time.

Sussex has made a good point which will have answered both of Relaxed's recent posts. The other one about why he can't work abroad. Sussex's comment is the answer. Again not answer to the question but certainly gives the OP a better understanding of how he works and should help change his way of thinking. OP is clearly a bit of a self entitled ex employee so SS's comments are very relevant in the bigger picture.

We've had many more off topic posts that are much more off topic than this one has gone to be fair.

        Yeah, I give you that.

My reply does sound more harsh than how I intended it to be.

It us a perfectly natural progression of the discussion.

One thing I don't miss - being hauled into client's office because I spent 20 minutes looking at my phone in my lunch hour

Only had that once - why were you on your phone?

Because I was getting my mate to help out and fix your problem which given the fact he was going it on the QT meant I couldn't talk to him except via my phone.

PS he's my resignation - I'm generous I'll stay until Friday....
