    Umbrella to Ltd - confused

    Hello,

I'm an IT contractor who wants to go from umbrella to Ltd, but don't want the hassle of registering a company myself but have no idea who to go for, can someone recommend me a company that can set me up and look after everything, talking to other contractors at work i'm losing a lot of money by going via umbrella, they have their own setups but i'm confused.com even when it's been explained to me just want a company to do it for me etc.

    thank you in advance.

    Read the accountant recommendation thread.

Most accountants will do it all for you.

They are making more money because they are willing to put a modicum of effort in for themselves. If all the above is hassle then you need to stay umbrella. The 'hassle' of setting a company up takes a couple of minutes. A few more minutes doing reading the 'Accountant Recommendation' thread will have answered your question. You see where I am going here.. a bit of effort.

Once you've set up your company you become legally responsible for it's finances so you can't let someone else do it for you. What you are asking for is an MSC which aren't allowed any more. Your accountant can help you with your finances but it's still up to you to do the leg work learning about basic accounting, entering expenses, your invoicing, checking your VAT quarterly, doing your own Companies House submissions, checking your year end accounts and so on and so on.

That's not to mention learning about IR35, how it works and making sure you stay outside, getting your contracts checked, getting your insurances inc tax liabilities insurances, learning how to read and understand your contracts and many many things I haven't listed.

If that's too much hassle then stay brolly.

        +1

You either pay someone else to do the business admin (Umbrella) or you take home more by doing it yourself.

Having an accountant that uses Free Agent will go a long way to making the admin easier, but you will need learn more about running a one person ltd and your responsibilities to Company’s House and HMRC.
