At renewal time, if the client is keen for you to renew, you can put pressure on the agency to lower their margins to something more reasonable. That way the client gets the contractor they want, you get the rate increase you want, and the agency gets continued revenue that they want.

If you expect to sign a contract, and renegotiate it almost immediately, you will find your services won't be in demand for very much longer. You should have asked for a better rate up front, so brush up on your negotiating skills for next time.

As with many things contracting, it helps to "tell, not ask", but only when you have a strong hand.
Finding out what the agent's on shouldn't be the point at which you decide you want more, though. That's their business. You won yours partially on what you decided to work for per day.
