What's the Longest Daily Commute You'd Be Prepared to Drive?

1 year of East Manc to Cheshire, averaging 3 hours per day was enough for me, I've vowed never to commute like that again. M60 + M56 = hell on earth.

Leeds to Warrington was in the laps of the gods most days, getting stuck in traffic on the way home is kinda ok, but its very frustrating watching the clock tick towards a 9:00 meeting you know you are going to miss

Under an hour is doable. Much more than that and it'll do your chunk.

Pity the train is not an option. I currently do 90 mins door to door inc train (drive would be 75 mins) and its ok to be honest.

For me even one day WFH is golden for something like this.
Also, even with my train commute I stay over once in a while just to maintain sanity.

Absolutely this. It's not just the (cough) 55 mins you have to think about. You've got set off early enough to counter any problems on the way. The commute might be that long but you might need to be setting off 30 or more mins earlier just in case as well.

I'm happy with an hour each way, will put up with an hour 15 mins but will start looking at trains for anything over that.

Do what I do. Refuse any requests for meetings within one hour of my normal arrival or departure time. A simple "Can we postpone until 10am?" is often sufficient.

I did ~95 miles each way for a while. I could do that in about 1hr40 for the most part, but it doesn't take much of a hold up to push it over two hours and that I would find really hard.

The client then closed the office and moved further away, making it 120 miles and about 2 hours. But by then I was doing Tuesday and Thursday at home, so wasn't so bad.

I'd say anything less than an hour is nothing, and you're lucky if you have that. But above 2 hours is unacceptable.

WillyWin check the amount of accidents on the M56 between 12 and 14. I believe you won't find anything as bad in the UK. Also getting in and out of Chester can be a pain, unless you are on the outskirts.

I learned that your time is better spent behind a desk earning than behind a wheel f-ing and jeffing.

I was travelling from Ellesmere Port to Oldham, done it for 2 days and decided it was better to stay in a hotel. 3 hours getting home after a 12 hour day is a non-starter.

I've written to my MP about the M56 it's so bad, but the response was a waste of paper. I'm glad I'm not in a role that takes in the M56 on a daily basis, I'd pack in before I'd do that commute daily.

Better than sitting in traffic for 45-60 minutes.

I had a contract which could take me 20 minutes or 75 minutes to drive to due to that important 5 minutes.
