Do I have to work my notice period as a contractor?

    For what it's worth, at my last gig I left because the boss and the people I was working with were tools of the highest magnitude. I only had a seven day notice period but I gave them the notice and informed them that I was simply unavailable to work it. You've got no reason to pull a sickie since your contract seems to insinuate that your at liberty to decline work.

    Fair warning though, the agent who got me the role wasn't happy and we've had some aggro about the last invoice but it's resolved now. So that's probably going to be the extent of any complaints from the agent/client

    To be honest, I think you're right. At the end of the day you're a business like they are and if you can secure 3 months work by binning off two weeks is a no brainer.

    Just tell them your unavailable, no fluff about being sick. You're under no obligation to explain why.

        Not really, we'll just keep repeating the professional way of doing it:

        Speak to the client, do not involve current agent.

        Offer a substitute or extra hours, or simply the idea of further cost savings.

        Explain to the new agent that you're exiting as soon as you possibly can.
