Those salaries seem far lower than I thought they were. Also why on earth are we allowing Indian graduates prior to them getting actual skills....

It's just gone up from 20,800 to 25 and rise again next April to 30 according to this.

Because they write code as bad as British/EU grads for the fraction of the price. Seems like a bargain to the beancounters.

UK needs to look after their own first & foremost we should cancel 99.9% of all IT visas tomorrow get our own people in full time work again then see what slim pickings we want to let others have the great honour of be given a visa for! In the meantime all these consultancies & offshoring specialists are just raking in the money & more & more UK IT workers are sitting around on the bench!!

You do realise all graduates could remain in the country without a job up until 2011? Yes, even those sport science morons from kingston university.

£30k would limit grads to financial services and the big software houses too. Seems like a stupid idea that will drain the country of much need skilled resources.

I'd much rather we have 1000 Indian techies over a yet another lazy European lodging in a room and working in a coffee shop.

What are you on about?

Those so called lazy Europeans actually get up very early to serve me coffee when I'm taking the train around the country on business. They are also the same people who get my breakfast quickly when I'm going off on holiday on some early flight unlike their British equivalents.

I suppose it raises the bar a bit. Itjobswatch has developers having an average advertised rate of £45,000 (granted not an exact figure) so there is plenty of scope for companies to go for the cheap option still though.

I'm generally critical of mass immigration but I have to concede that the influx of European labour to the hospitality industry has been a positive thing on the whole.
