I have had one agent contact me since Christmas. Possibly the worse agent I have ever encountered. Asked me if I was looking, has nothing signed off as yet but a possible. 10 minutes later I get a message on linkedin from the same agent, saying have this really good guy available, listing all their experience, places worked etc. Finished with would I like to see their CV? Basically it was my own profile he was talking about. Unbelievable.

Wow, that is pretty amazing I've had daft agents offering me jobs which I'm already doing (at the same company), but never had anyone trying to flog me to myself

Yup. Tens of thousands of highly-motivated overseas IT and desk-based workers, being injected into a relatively small job market like the UK over the past few years has definitely played its part in destabilising the job market, when it was already weak and already adapting to the post-covid changes.

The ramifications are only in its early stages and will reverberate for a very long time, even if this government or the next decide to reverse the current open door immigration->citizenship policy for non-EU countries.

ftfy, every industry will suffer stagnant salaries over the coming decades because of AI. Even industries completly safe from AI will be hit, because more people will chasing those safer jobs.

The only silver lining is that everything becomes cheaper to produce because of AI. So living standards actually go up.

Highly skilled Devs will always earn $$$, until AI can code but by then we will all be retired.
From my experience in a large range of sectors, there's a big difference between the best project managers and the also rans. Can anyone be a project manager? Possibly. But not a really good one managing difficult projects, at least in non-software dev projects.

No idea, why people believe AI will suddenly start writing code itself.

                      1. Do you really believe AI will be able to write code to integrate solutions?

                      2. How will banks use AI to write code to process payments?

                      3. Will the government use AI to build counter terrisiom, security software also?
