    Our Interview process:

    * 30 minute call with one of our Talent Acquisition Team
    * 1 hour competency based interview
    * Take home task & review
    * 60 minute values led interview.

And this was for a contract role.

I look forward to your all knowing and likely sarcastic and unhelpful reply.

So, had an interview yesterday and dare I say it, but it looks to me it could result in an offer, once some details are clarified. Happy days eh?

          *** NOT ***

I should be happy right (assuming it comes off)? Jumping up and down even. Only I'm not. The part of me that decided to retire back in February has raised his ugly head, asking me if this is what I really want? Telling me the freedom of time I've been enjoying is about to be lost. The plan B's I've been working on, back on the burner. Only for money now at the expense of potential money, somewhere down the line.

          WTF is wrong with me?

This was my experience but for perm roles.

I never failed an initial 30 min pre-screen in the past but when the hiring processes were explained I think they picked up on my general sense of WTF and knocked me back.

No hiring process should take this long.

              Innumeracy? Grasping sense of entitlement?
But introspection and honesty partially redeem you.

I think this is normal. I can't bloody wait until retirement either.
You should always have a plan A, B, C etc, but maybe show some flex in bouncing between them.
Another year or two at a reasonable contract rate could make a lot of difference to your eventual retirement.

Obviously, hiring for a 'permie' position there's an element of risk, so it makes sense that a recruitment process would involve more steps. That said, I only ever had one permy role that had two interviews. Others were 30min interviews, none had any 'tests'.

For a contract role, should not the interview process reflect the risk? Risk of hiring a defective contractor is present, but response is simple - just dump. So why would hiring a contractor take more than an hour?

                * Take home task & review ... known in plain speak as free consultancy
                * 60 minute values led interview ... to check compliance with "corporate think" therefore irrelevant for a contractor. The whole point of being a contractor is freedom from this B£$%^&*(!

The best interview I had was "Hi, great to meet you, let's cut to the chase, I'm going to offer you the job so let's just discuss terms"

Ha, you should try actual procurement where you spend a week or more responding to a RFQ and then don’t win, i.e. ordinary B2B work, albeit extremely rare around here, it seems.
