While outside London someone may be a dick for not taking it, for some of the pressure that is exerted in Investment Banks £330 per day is on the low side. IBs are renowned for making unreasonable demands from time to time and I think the higher rate often goes some way to compensate for it.

Not sure about anyone else but within London I tend to aim for £100 per day over and above the same role I'd be looking at outside of London.

Actually you'd be a mug to take it when you can get more. Where you'll be being a bit of a tit is there's no doubt a guy out there who can't get more yet.

£50 a day is a lot to a great many people. When you drop the context you can make any idiotic thing sound reasonable.

You can if you host a http service locally on the machine to talk to the hardware. Anything a WPF application can do can be done with a browser plus a local http service / webserver. It could be an application or a Windows service (OWIN).

You don't even need to do that. Most barcode scanners just pretend to be a keyboard. Heck there are remote walkabout ones that come with built in web browsers and a small touch screen
merely at clientco for the entertainment

It is if you want an application that runs on Linux, Mac, Android, IoS, Windows, Unix, etc.

one size fits all flippers too , seems coding is going the same way as VM`d hardware then.

Not sure I would want to support a Windows Service \ HTTP Solution from IE 11 for 3000 tills.

                      Still hate WPF though.....
