    Contract Post Office/HSBC

    Hi

    I need some help/views on taking up a new contract. I have two offers one with post office and another one with HSBC. Rates and duration of the contract are moreover the same, however i am in an ambivalent situation considering both are good brands for my CV.I am guessing post office will have longevity and stability. Appreciate your views/comments/feedback.

    thanks
    Nick

    Lot's of IB guys on here to advise you on HSBC. IB seems to be getting a lot of cuts. Was it LBG today?

    I would opt for Royal Mail due to the growth in logistics arena following shift to online retail (In the UK this has happened, most of Europe it is just kicking off) and demand for skills is quite high.

    The fact that the post office is paying rates compatible with IB should be a clue.

      Both firm offers? On the table? Ready to sign?

      What about the tech and the type of work to be done. What looks more interesting/useful?

        Doom and gloom in IB at the moment. Been very sombre on the wharf in the last couple of weeks. Post Office gets my vote.

          Royal Mail != Post Office

            FWIW Post Office is a separate company to Royal Mail now.

              Yeah, just saw that. My bad. Happened long after i left.

              Shame, if it was Royal Mail then skills transferable to shipping, aviation - most transport in fact.

              I am guessing Post Office is a retail construct. Not as attractive.

                The PO is the proud owner of The Horizon accounting system.

                Bunch of amateurs.

                  HSBC have regular rate cuts. 10% I hear is the norm. They also tend to use Fujitsu who keep most of the daily rate & pass little onto the contractor! Then the news about HSBC considering leaving UK for Hong Kong unlikely to happen but contractors get regular culling @ IB's HSBC are one of the worse for this so I would chose Royal Mail if you want stability.

                    Accounting? Isn't it their EPOS system?
