If you commute, then you have an opportunity to make your own sandwiches / do your own thing - therefore, don't claim it.

If you are staying away and you buy lunch, then claim it. If you are staying away and make a sandwich, then don't claim it.

Do you claim mileage on those trips?

Though that's off the top of my head, not counting days off and assuming 4 5day weeks in a month.

But you can claim £5 a day can't you?

You claim what you spent with a receipt unless you have dispensation which is unlikely.

This sums it up for me. Having the ability to make your own food even if you don't is the key.

Dispensation you still need receipts. Scale rate you wouldn't, but that's not going to happen in this scenario.

Wasn't aware of that, never needed to claim, I'll bear it in mind for future!

Always claimed lunch when working on-site. Never had any qualms about doing so and meals as part of business travel and working at a temporary workplace are allowable (24 month rule permitting).

I'm only on-site 20% of the time, its an additional cost and who can be faffed with packed lunches?
