Plus, while I'm sure the poster in question is a lovely person IRL, given his posts on here, there's no way I'd put them in contact with an agent that I had a good relationship with.

I obtained my current contract through LinkedIn. A Programme Manager I previously worked with contacted me through it.

It's more about keeping your proper contacts up-to-date with your work situation than anything else.
