Used to pee myself laughing at the stuff people put on their LI profile. I knew more than one person who had a pretty bog standard role at places I worked at, but, their profile read like they were something senior and the outfit couldnt run without them.

Then you get the guff like 'So and so is becoming available on (insert date) and Im now looking for my next exciting and fulfilling challenge'! Really?

What makes you think that what people put on their LinkedIn profile is any different from how they describe their role on their CV? The only difference is that more people can see it, and can therefore say "he never did that!" and laugh about it.

I used to pretty much ignore it - but since Linked in got me my highest daily rate, longest contract, and no agency in the middle I've started to pay a bit more attention to who I communicate with and what I put on there.

Good for you. I dont think LI is any more likely to get someone their highest rate than any other method.

Must admit, I've seen folk do this too, and I can quite imagine their CV's do similar.

It's just another tool to use though. I don't see any harm in putting up a status with availability.

Haven't got any roles through it as yet right enough, but I think it will happen sooner or later.
