Anyone with HSBC (Canary Wharf) ?

    Hi all,
Anyone with recent experience with HSBC (Canary Wharf) here? How is/was your experience? How is the work culture? Working hours? Work from home? Do they cut rates like Barcap?

Any relevant advice is gratefully received

    Cheers
    Jasmine

According to Roger Sinclair's contract breakers database they like their cuts..

And I would suspect the culture and conditions are vastly different depending on which area you work in so doubt there will be a one stop answer.

I have a friend working there at the moment and he seems to like it. They are quite flexible with working from home and the work is generally challenging and interesting.

They are doing a lot fo regulatory work at the moment but I think all banks are now doing this. Of course all of this depends on your ultimate manager. A good manager can really make a world of difference to a project

Same as everywhere else - it depends which area you land in.

Their recent spate of hiring-my-mate has surfaced IT projects in trouble so musical chairs has begun in certain areas already - and in the wharf generally.

Company policy to enforce 1 day a week working from home, or so I've heard. (can't see many people objecting to that, except the homeless maybe!)

Does anyone know the general work timings there? I do a 8:00-4:30 day - Wondering if that will be a problem

It will depend on the team you join and the manager who you work for. There is no set policy on times in and out

This - 1 day mandatory - hard to get a Friday, Wednesdays are the easiest. You can work out more with the line manager.

Interesting; I'd have assumed they'd be loath to let any work stuff out of the building. When I worked at a company who outsourced some banking projects even they had a nightmare with this.

If I remember correctly, working from home and hot desking started due to a shortage of desk space in the Canary Wharf tower.

OP - I really enjoyed my time there. I think it is one of the better IB clients.
