You would be surprised how many client companies use services like gmail on a corporate basis.

    Nothing wrong with free services.
You are a company, you are a professional, you are a technical expert, you can't work out how to have your own domain hosted by Google Apps?

IMHO it looks unprofessional to have a free account as a contractor

I use a work named gmail account on my jobboard CVs and switch to my business email as soon as I get a tickle.

The amount of spam I get on my work gmail account is huge.

        +1

My daughter did some work for an American company and had a gmail account set up to project the company name as the domain name.

Yes, Lord Snooty, I'll get on it right away.

TBH, if you were hiring and turned me away because I have a hotmail account, I would think I had a lucky escape.

I have a good filter on my Easyspace account so it's easy to block the spam.

Is Easyspace any good? I used them for a few years a while back and they were absolute rubbish.

Horses for courses, fine pay for a bespoke domain, but IMHO nothing wrong with <companyname>@outlook.com or whatever, showing financial prudence to HMRC.

I look forward to your all knowing and likely sarcastic and unhelpful reply.

Google Apps charges now. When it was free, I set up all my domains on it.
