Former environment secretary George Eustice has savaged the UK's free trade deal with Australia and criticised Liz Truss's role in negotiating it.

Mr Eustice, who helped secure the agreement, told a Commons debate that it was "not actually a very good deal for the UK".

It was the first post-Brexit deal negotiated from scratch.

Mr Eustice told the Commons that now he is on the backbenches he "no longer has to put such a positive gloss on what was agreed".

Overall the UK "gave away far too much for far too little in return", he told MPs.

I think that you'll find that the UK hasn't had a working, sensible and functioning government since the referendum. Do you think uch of this tulip would have happened if that hadn't occurred? but that isn't the point of brexit... the point is that "economic integration" should not become MORE than economic integration whereby Europe effectively becomes the United States of Europe, government by a quasi supra-national governing body, which is, to all intents and purposes... UNELECTED! This was the 'rai·son d'être' for brexit.

If 27 'commissioners' set an agenda for the EU parliament that is then voted on by a bunch of MEP's that hardly anybody voted for, and who, even then, cannot change that agenda, is that really democratic?

The people who voted for Brexit seem keen to keep changing the reason for why they voted.
It's like they are the biggest exponents of cancel culture out there.
