Except this kind of thing will never happen and is why the EU agreed a UK a trade deal to come in to effect on 1 Jan 2021. -
It will because the trade deal includes clauses allowing either side to take action should the other do something that harms trade in any way.Originally posted by rambaugh View PostExcept this kind of thing will never happen and is why the EU agreed a UK a trade deal to come in to effect on 1 Jan 2021.
If the UK starts subsidising industries, changing regulations or anything that penalises EU countries then the EU is able to take action in retaliation. At which point that kind of thing will happen."Being nice costs nothing and sometimes gets you extra bacon" - Pondlife.Comment

Sure the EU could use that as leverage to try and hold Britain back but this wouldn't be in the spirit of good economic partnering and eventually will just end up being a race to the bottom for all involved.Originally posted by DaveB View PostIt will because the trade deal includes clauses allowing either side to take action should the other do something that harms trade in any way.

Also you must remember that Brexit will force Britain's economy to diversify and replace more and more trade it does with the EU with other global economies where it will then have less reliance on imports to the EU than it does now.Last edited by rambaugh; 13 January 2021, 14:32.Comment

Half of your trade is always with your neighbours. That won't change. Something about crooked bananas? And I think there was something else about warning messages printed on bags of party balloons saying kids should not eat them. Those two will certainly be on the chopping block first and the tyranny will be lifted.Originally posted by BlasterBates View PostWhat I find interesting is that the government hasn't made a single concrete suggestion about what laws it will change to be more competitive. Drive around France motorways at around 110mph or less, with only a fine to risk if you're caught by actual cops.Originally posted by fullyautomatix View PostThat definitely counts as a Brexit win! Just need to find out how to exploit this properly.
That's the spirit!Originally posted by rambaugh View PostIn 2-3 years time the Britain's economy will fully adapt to the change and be on a trajectory for greater sustained prosperity than could ever be acheived by being in the EU. Brexit has happened now so get on with it.
