Three big mitigating factors:
Germany were bound by the peace treaty at the end of WW2 as well.
There's a lot of "wars" in the late 40s and 50s that were simply the disintegration of the British Empire.
The Troubles started in 1922 and will not end until there's a united Ireland but that's a given.

We're in a relative time of peace. Enjoy it while it lasts.

When you say the "Americans saved us", they sold/loaned us troops, equipment and supplies. The initial US involvement in WWII was not about them wanting to "save an ally" it was a financial transaction.
