You can make anything brexit related if you try hard enough. But the UK is going to adopt it in all likelihood - Brexit or no Brexit. As far as this particular ruling goes, it'll be the same for the UK both before and after Brexit.Originally posted by DimPrawn View PostWell, Evo, the UK based car magazine says:
Mandatory speed limiters to be fitted to all new cars in Europe within three years | Evo
And so it is Brexit related, since in theory (
yes I know), we can make up our own rules and laws soon!
We already can make up our own rules and laws before Brexit, and we'll be exactly as limited in our ability to do that after Brexit.Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!Comment

Interesting where the Wailers would call to bring back hanging for breaking some laws, but if it's laws they like to break, well any law is just the interfering nanny state.
Anyway, most modern cars have speed limiters in them already. One is set so that you can't over-rev the engine, and the other is a bit like cruise control where the driver can set it to a value and it will prevent the car from going faster unless you put your foot to the shag pile - which is very like this proposal is suggesting, so no change there then
Many modern cars with GPS in them will also display the speed limit, which can change from being on a white background to a red background when you exceed it. It's not flashing lights and horns going off. It's part of the nav system.
And the other suggestions they are proposing? According to EVO:
Again, not exactly news, many cars these days have lane departure systems and automatic emergency braking along with other things like adaptive cruise control.a whole host of new safety measures such as lane-keep assist and autonomous emergency braking. It’s not all quite as bad as you may think, as it will likely be a feature as easy to disable as it is to change your radio station
But it's good to know that Wailers will be able to turn everything off easily. They don't want pesky safety things in cars like seat belts, servo brakes, bumpers and headrests.…Maybe we ain’t that young anymoreComment

The EU is going to dominate the UK for years and years. New EU regulations will be shoved down the UK's throat under the "vassalage" deal and there will be endless "Brexit" debates, this will be known as "Brexeternity".
I'm alright JackComment

But does this article mean that all new cars will be sold with these various things (which as you say already exist) as opposed to them being optional extra'sOriginally posted by WTFH View PostInteresting where the Wailers would call to bring back hanging for breaking some laws, but if it's laws they like to break, well any law is just the interfering nanny state.

Or will there start to be an ability to remotely monitor all of these things which could then be used to retrospectively convict you of speeding say?
Do we need to retrofit all cars?Comment

I've not been down that slippery slope of yours.
Perhaps the things that are optional extras will become standard features in years to come. Many years ago laminated windscreens, heated rear windows, seatbelts and radios were considered optional extras, but now they are standard. Maybe progress means you get more things as standard?
As for retrospective convictions, there's a whole section on this forum about that sort of skullduggery, so far the only country to do that is the UK, and currently it is only selective - i.e. do not go after big businesses, only small ones.…Maybe we ain’t that young anymoreComment
