In 2016 the car maker said it would build the X-Trail SUV in Sunderland after receiving "assurances" from the government over Brexit. The company is expected to say investment will be now be pulled, rather than existing work being halted.

Labour MP for Houghton and Sunderland South, Bridget Phillipson, spoke of her concern at the prospect.

Who cares? The real money is in the services, sacked workers can just become AMD shares day traders, the City will make up the difference.

        Oh wait...

I wonder when exactly brexiters will finally come to their senses and realise they were lied to and they will be so much worse off?

Brexiters are currently in stages 1 and 2 of the change curve; some are still in denial, whilst others are getting very angry. Some who are deeper into the process like MPs have reached the Bargaining stage but this is still some way off yet for leave voters.

I'm looking forward to their depression when they realise they will be so much worse off and the and of unicorns and fluffy rainbows doesn't exist.

Acceptance will be brexiters agreeing to a softer brexit, maybe even going back into the EU ... could be a year or 2 away yet though for that

Maybe they were lied to and fooled. But it's possible that they see the withdrawal of investment from their community as a price worth paying.

It’s too long term for them to grasp, even though for manufacturing it was the most obvious projection

Maybe. But you can guarantee in 20 years time May will be as vilified as Thatcher for destroying northern manufacturing

Ironically, the Sunderland Nissan plant is the manufacturing icon of Thatcherism. I guess she understood the importance of the CU and SM.
