job creation was the weakest in two-and-a-half years as Brexit uncertainty had led to hesitancy among clients and a corresponding slowdown in progress on new projects.

But what is being said is that things are not going to get worse - they are just not going to potentially get something they may have potentially got had Brexit not happened.

The Quashai will continue to be manufactured in Sunderland which is useful when you consider where Nissan's largest European Market is.

So manufacturing will wither on the vine as per Minford? New investment will go elsewhere and current plant will age and be wound down. Of course if there's a no deal Brexit, all bets are off.

I disagree, the UK is a great consumer of goods - one of the largest in the EU therefore there will always be a need for goods to be manufactured here.

I think however that there has always been a race to the bottom in terms of the manufacturing industry - thus why Apple phones are made by 12 year olds in China and nobody seems to care.

And the UK will not be in a position to compete - not due to Brexit but due to the fact the people in the UK expect to be paid more than 2 turnips a week.

In addition not sure I want to trust the life of my loved ones in a car that's been built by someone with limited education being paid two turnips a week.

Here we go again ... different day, same tactic. Keep it up fella

"Ad hominem (Latin for "to the person"[1]), short for argumentum ad hominem, is a fallacious argumentative strategy whereby genuine discussion of the topic at hand is avoided by instead attacking the character, motive, or other attribute of the person making the argument, or persons associated with the argument, rather than attacking the substance of the argument itself."

Let's pause there. Explain that logical leap.

What you've not grasped yet, is not just the fact the investment is moving from the UK, but also why it is gong to Japan and not the EU. Whilst we had access to the EU market Nissan were happy to manufacture here as we provided them access to the largest single market in the world. They don't need us anymore though as Japan now has a trade deal with the EU that allows them the access that we used to give them. They are likely to run down the UK plants over the coming years as we no longer have anything to offer - this was predicted before the 2016 ref and will devastate the economies impacted.

But, hey ho, we're taking back control and will have blue passports, so all will be good

                  Are wages lower in Japan?

Edit: Also, are wages for car manufacturer workers lower in Spain?

It would have been easier all round if they'd worked out that Croatia already has blue passports.

Fact is car production was increasing in the UK in the last few years.

Automotive industry in the United Kingdom - Wikipedia

in 1990 the UK manufactured 1,566 vehicles, in 2016 1,817 and increasingly strongly at the time. Vehicles manufactured in 2016 have much higher added value than those from 1990.

The EU hasn't hindered the UK's car manufacturing, but Brexit probably will.

no fear there will be a boom in fruit farming
