"It acknowledged in a letter to workers: “Today’s announcement will be interpreted by a lot of people as a decision related to Brexit.” The X-Trail is produced in Japan currently and Nissan said keeping production there would reduce “upfront investment costs”. The slump in the European diesel car market also played a role in the decision, with the Sunderland plant originally earmarked for the diesel version of the X-Trail."

So they are simply not moving the production of the xtrail to the UK mainly due to a drop in diesel sales - and Sunderland was earmarked to build the diesel version.

              That's the spirit.

But how do you get from 'also' to 'mainly'?

                Semantic gymnastics.

                You'd know all about that.

The company clearly states that Brexit contributed to the decision so basically if you stick your fingers in your ears and shout la la la, you can convince yourself it was nothing to do with Brexit.

Unfortunately for the Brexiteers, most people in Sunderland don't think like that.

                    I'm alright Jack

I do not think anyone is denying that

But what is being said is that things are not going to get worse - they are just not going to potentially get something they may have potentially got had Brexit not happened.

The Quashai will continue to be manufactured in Sunderland which is useful when you consider where Nissan's largest European Market is.
