The leaders of the movement are clever propagandists who will say anything to keep the project moving, at which point they will clean up at the expense of the population. Problem is non voting - partly due to voting supression and partly due to first past the post system, which was a shining beacon of democracy few hundred years ago but now it’s totally inadequate - it inevitably results in olygopoly of two parties

Absolutely we should have had UKIP and Fascist groups as MPs a long time ago. At least then the main stream voters could have seen empty ideas for what they really are. Instead those on the far right were promised milk and honey by Fararge who knew he would never have to deliver the promises or views he held.

Thinking about this a bit more, it would be more of an issue for the e.u. than the u.k. Simply from the political angle that Trump would sell this to his core support that the e.u. are discriminating against American firms and it gives the USA a new front to attack the e.u via the courts and WTO.

The e.u. would either have to impose border checks, follow the concept of friction-less trade for all or agree to a generous deal to the UK.

They’d get their 10-15%, so what? As long as nobody gets into coalition with them. It works in Europe.
